WEEKEND SCHEDULE
APRIL 17-18, 2010
The United States Coast Guard Academy Nitecaps Jazz Band will celebrate their 50th Anniversary on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday April 17 - 18, 2010 at Leamy Hall Auditorium on the grounds of the United States Coast Guard Academy. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy Nitecaps Jazz Band was formed in January 1959, under the direction of 1/C Nick Schowengerdt, to provide “swingin’ and cool” music for cadet dances. We would like to cordially invite members from the original Nitecaps Jazz Band, and all of the Nitecaps alums, who have performed with the Nitecaps since their inception, to participate in Nitecaps rehearsals and to perform on stage with the current Nitecaps members during the Nitecap’s 50th Anniversary Weekend Concert, which will take place at 2:00 PM on Sunday April 18, 2010 in the Leamy Hall Auditorium. This celebratory event will be free and open to the public. A full schedule of activities has also been coordinated to commemorate this momentous milestone.
The United States Coast Guard Academy Nitecaps Weekend will provide rehearsal time for Nitecaps alums to prepare for the Nitecaps 50th Anniversary Concert. We will also provide an opportunity for those who would like to coordinate jam sessions with like-minded musicians, in the genre of your choosing. A no host trip to New London’s new Jazz Club, the Jazz Underground will be available for those who wish to experience some exciting live jazz performances. The 50th Anniversary Concert, and the subsequent Gala Nitecaps 50th Anniversary Banquet at the USCG Academy Officer’s Club will culminate the Nitecaps 50th Anniversary Weekend. The following is a comprehensive schedule and Alumni Questionnaire for the Nitecaps 50th Anniversary Weekend events.

0900: Nitecaps Rehearsal, (Leamy Hall Lower Rehearsal Room.)
1100: Nitecaps Alumni join Rehearsal, (Leamy Hall Lower Rehearsal Room.)
1200: Nitecaps 50th Anniversary Post Rehearsal Luncheon in Lower Lounge.
1400: Open Jam Sessions. *
TBA: (No host) Trip to New London Jazz Underground Niteclub.
Sunday April 18th
1200: Rehearsal, (Leamy Hall Auditorium.)
1400: Nitecaps 50th Anniversary Concert, (Leamy Hall Auditorium.)
1630: Post Concert Gala Dinner at Officer’s Club
NITECAPS ALUMNI QUESTIONAIRE
*** Attire for Alumni performers will be coat and tie.
* Please indicate the type (genre) of Jam session that suits your musical interest, and we will coordinate the sessions.

The Guest of honor for the Nitecaps 50th Anniversary Post Concert Gala Dinner will be Mr. Nick Schowengerdt and the original members of the 1959 Nitecaps.
